On March 17, at the Colloque international sur le droit des sûretés et le droit des biens à l’épreuve de l’immatériel et de la dématérialisation, Nicolas Sapp gave a lecture entitled Intellectual Property and Security, Intangible Assets as a Common Guarantee for creditors.

On March 15, in partnership with LES and the Young Quebec Bar, Geneviève Hallé-Désilets and Vincent Bergeron gave a lecture entitled "Trademarks, advertising and marketing: everything you need to know, from franchising to advertising contests !". The bar accredited conference, was given in front of a crowded room at the Le Camp incubator.


30-01 Twelve Updates in 2016 for the Canadian Trade-marks Act Annotated
 

The editorial committee of the Robic Canadian Trade-marks Act Annotated (presided by Hugues G. Richard) prepared twelve updates in 2016 for this recognized six-volume reference book published by Carswell (ThomsonReuters) since 1984.


30-01 Cahiers de propriété intellectuelle: 86th issue
 

Under the supervision of Laurent Carrière, its Editor-in-Chief, the French IP law review Cahiers de propriété intellectuelle (vol. 29, no. 1) published its 86th issue of over 250 pages. Four members of the firm contributed to this number: Camille Aubin on the implied licence in computer software (copyright), Barry Gamache on the geographical descriptiveness (trade-marks), Martin Gauthier on gumanized antibody claims (patents) and Arthur Landault on the protection of soundmark in before the European Court of Justice (trade-marks)


30-01 Laurent Carrière Reappointed as Editor-in-Chief of the Cahiers de propriété intellectuelle
 

On January 30, 2016, the Board of Directors of the law review Cahiers de propriété intellectuelle reappointed Laurent Carrière as Editor-in-Chief, for a 20th year. In 2016, the three CPI issues totalled over 750 pages on matters dealing with intellectual property (IP) and information and communications technology (ICT).


30-01 Twelve Updates in 2016 for the Canadian Copyright Act Annotated
 

The editorial committee of the Robic Canadian Copyright Act Annotated (presided by Laurent Carrière) prepared twelve updates in 2016 for this recognized six-volume reference book of over 7000 pages published by Carswell (ThomsonReuters) since 1993. One of the 2017 updates will provide a compilation of Canadian copyright cases rendered in 2016.


31-10 Cahiers de propriété intellectuelle: 84th issue
 

Under the supervision of Laurent Carrière, its Editor-in-Chief, the French IP law review Cahiers de propriété intellectuelle (vol. 28, no. 2) published its 84th issue : 330 pages, 10 articles. This issue dealt mainly with a review of caselaw decided in the last year : Catherine Bergeron and Geneviève Hallée-Désilets discussed decsions rendered with respect to pharmaceutical trade-marks.


24-01 Laurent carrière presents the CPI prize
 

On January 24, 2017, during a dinner-conference organized by the Literary and Artistic Association (ALAI-Canada), Laurent Carrière awarded the 2016 Prize for the Cahiers de propriété intellectuelle to co-winner Rossita Stoyanova for her work on the legal framework for personal names in entertainment law.

On January 19, 2017, Laurent Carrière and Danièle Éthier parti-ci-pated in the annual meeting of the Association des praticiens du droit des marques et des modèles (APRAM) in Paris.


16-01 31th Year of Collaboration between ROBIC and the World Intellectual Property Report
 

In 2016, under the direction of Laurent Carrière, the firm maintained its 31-year contribution to the monthly World Intellectual Property Report (BNA-Bloomberg) by publishing twelve comments on Canadian intellectual property case law. The team members of these regular WIPR contributions were Barry Gamache, Jason Moscovici and Stella Syrianos.


02-12 ROBIC at the International Symposium "A New International Reality for Brands in Canada''
 

On December 2, 2016, at the international symposium "A New International Reality for Brands in Canada" organized by the Universities of Brussels, Geneva and Montreal, Laurent Carrière chaired two panels, one on legislative reforms on trademarks and the other on the choice of signs as trademarks. Marcel Naud, within the panel on international dimensions of trademark practice, analyzed the impact of the Equustek case on the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Canadian courts for trademark violations by search engines

On November 22, 2016, Alexandra Steele lectured the Intellectual Property Litigation Section of the Ontario Bar Association on Confidentiality Orders before the Federal Courts of Canada


18-11 Two Members of the Firm Lecturers in a Colloquium of the Quebec Bar
 

On November 18, 2016, the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Quebec Bar Association held its 20th Colloquium on Recent Developments in IP Law chaired by Laurent Carrière.

Amongst the seven lecturers, Louis-Pierre Gravelle discussed of the protection of mobile app through the laws of intellectual property
